Concierge medicine is a membership-based model of care whereby a patient pays a physician an annual fee to be a member of the practice. The concierge doctor limits the number of patients in the practice, which enables the physician to offer certain benefits to patients that would not be possible in a larger, non-concierge practice.
Each concierge practice offers different benefits to its members. At Wayland Personal Physicians, we offer a 90-minute annual physical examination, longer follow-up appointments, and more same and next day appointments. In addition, our members may reach their physician directly and communicate with their physician outside of regular business office hours, including at night or on weekends, via phone, text, or email.
There are many reasons that concierge medicine might be right for you. You would benefit from the personal attention of a concierge physician if:
- You have a chronic condition that needs close attention and management from your physician and coordination of care with your specialists.
- You have a busy schedule and need to communicate with your physician when it works for you and make appointments on short notice.
- You travel frequently, and you need to have the ability to consult with your physician by phone, text, email, or video conference during and outside of regular office hours.
- You are at risk for certain medical conditions due to family history, aging, lifestyle choices, or environmental conditions, and you want more time with your physician to focus on prevention.
- You want to focus on your overall health, wellness, and wellbeing.
- You want to have a more personalized healthcare experience, healthcare tied to your needs and values, and a connected relationship with your physician.
Yes, definitely. As a member of Wayland Personal Physicians, your physician will provide you with personalized care to help you achieve and maintain your wellness goals, including optimizing your health, identifying and preventing disease, and / or counteracting the effects of aging. You will also have the peace of mind knowing that your doctor will know you well and will be available to speak with you and see you when you need it.
Yes. You will still benefit from Wayland Personal Physicians membership if you relocate for part of the year or travel extensively. You may communicate with your physician by phone, text, and email while you are away. You may also schedule video conferences with your physician to discuss your health and wellness, thereby receiving the benefits of remote monitoring. You will also have peace of mind knowing that your physician will oversee and coordinate your care while you are away.
Your physician will have time to take a more active role in prevention and in creating individualized, tailored plans to meet your specific healthcare needs and goals. He will also work with you to help you achieve and maintain those goals. In addition, you will have the ability to speak with your physician via video conferencing and reach your physician outside of office hours, including on weekends and in the evening. For example, should you not feel well and you are unsure of whether you need to go to the emergency center or wait to see your doctor the next day, you can make that decision together with your doctor. Of course, if it is a true life-threatening emergency, always call 911 immediately. Your physician will be available to speak with your emergency doctor or hospitalist if you are admitted to the hospital. He will also be able to check in with the hospital staff daily during any hospitalization.
Your doctor will be more involved with the emergency doctor or hospitalist who is overseeing your care in the hospital. In addition, your physician will be available to speak with you or a loved one (with proper consent) daily while you are hospitalized and continue to coordinate your care amongst specialists.
Wayland Personal Physicians is affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Needham, and Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

In addition, Dr. Goldman and Dr. Smith will be available for scheduled video conferencing and telemedicine appointments.
If your personal physician is away or unavailable, the other physician at Wayland Personal Physicians will be available to care for you until your personal physician returns. Since there are only two physicians at Wayland Personal Physicians, Dr. Frederic Goldman and Dr. Jonathan Smith, you will always know specifically who will be available to care for you when your personal physician is away.
